For the rest of our dances, at PFS, clean, soft-soled shoes are required. There are brushes to clean shoes if needed. Please wipe shoes on the mat when entering and exiting the Great Room (where we dance) to avoid tracking grit onto the dance floor or dust into the hallways. And even if the side doors of the Great Room are open for ventilation, please do not enter or exit the hall that way.
To volunteer help with refreshments and other tasks, please contact Janet at 609-730-8563 or Janet Mills, or sign up at a dance.
Bob welcomes your input as he plans the dance:
e-mail him or phone 609-846-6230.
Wednesday, September 18: Alas, the Canadian band Tüque and caller Martha Cooper have had to reschedule their fall tour because of international travel complications. Watch for them at other U.S. locations in October. We will try to catch them on their next trip through the mid-Atlantic.
Wednesday, October 2: Colin Hume with Hold the Mustard. Who says you can't please everyone? Colin will present English dances for contra dancers and contra dances for English dancers. HTM members Daniel Beerbohm, Barbara Greenberg, Paul Prestopino, and Kathy Talvitie are famed for their musical excellence in both genres.
Wednesday, October 9: Donna Hunt with Larry Unger, Paul Prestopino, and Susie Lorand. We'll tickle your ears with brand-new and seldom-heard tunes, both sweet and hot, by the two composers in the group, as well as some old favorites.
Wednesday, October 16: Sue Dupré with the band Footloose (David DiGiuseppe, Rex McGee, Pete Campbell, and Jim Roberts). This "high energy and oft times zany" band draws on Irish, southern old time, jazz, and classical influences and aims to "rock the socks off of contra dancers."
Saturday, September 22: Beau Farmer with the Philadelphia band Fingerpyx (Enid Diamante, Jo Anne Rocke, Wes Steenson).
Saturday, October 26: David Millstone with Rum & Onions XXIII led by Bob Pasquarello (at Princeton High School), 3-11 p.m.
Saturday, November 23: Scott Higgs with Heavy Traffic (with Larry Unger, Bill Christopherson, and a mystery musician) at Princeton Friends School.
Rewards: eternal gratitude of your organizers, and (for significant amounts of help) free admission to a future dance.
Please e-mail Barbara Simpson to sign up.
Would you show up to dance? Would you help with set-up, sound, clean-up, refreshments, minding the door? Please contact the PCD committee by mid-October. We'll only schedule dances if there's enough interest.

Community Dance Sunday, October 6
People of September 11: Benefit Dance
September 11 falls on a Wednesday this year. PCD recognizes that people will want to observe the anniversary of last year's tragedies in various ways. For those who wish to be with their dance community, we will hold a potluck at 6:30 p.m. followed by contra dancing with Bob Isaacs and the pick-up band, with proceeds to go to the CDSS scholarship fund in memory of Steve Adams, a dancer who died in the collapse of the World Trade Center.
Touring Bands and Callers for Fall
Band and caller migration season is here! Visiting performers from England, New England, and North Carolina join forces with several nearby callers and musicians in September and October.
Fourth Saturday Contras Continue
PCD holds a dance on the 4th Saturday of every month this fall! Here are the dates:
Rum & Onions Dance Back at Princeton High School for 2002
The PHS gym is available for this year's Halloween dance after all! (Renovation work may prevent us from using it next year; the R&O committee welcomes suggestions for future locations.)
Rum & Onions Volunteers Needed
We¹re throwing a party for 250-odd (some of them very odd indeedŠ) dancers on Saturday, October 26, the annual Halloween dance. Please think about how you'd like to help: putting up signs? purchasing/setting up refreshments? kitchen crew before/during/after the potluck? taking a turn at the admissions table? taking down the sound system afterwards?
Help Needed with Refreshments
Please speak to a committee member at a dance, or email
pcd@dancegypsy.com, if you can help purchase and keep track of supplies for the all-important refreshment breaks at our regular dances (Wednesdays and ordinary 4th Saturdays).
Third Annual "Butterball": Saturday, November 30, Bryn Athyn, PA
Tori Barone has lined up another great bunch of bands and callers for this year's 12-hour post-Thanksgiving Saturday dance extravaganza. Check the web page or watch for the flyers for details.
Winter Cotillion with Hold the Mustard: Save the Date of Sunday, December 15
PCD's traditional festive potluck and evening dance will feature a cavalcade of local callers, seasonal entertainment, and the music of Hold the Mustard for our contra and English dancing delight. Mark your calendars! Location to be announced. Please contact Hinda Kriegel to join the cotillion committee or offer help with the event.
Should We Hold Dances on Wednesdays, December 25 & January 1?
Christmas and New Year's Day both fall on Wednesdays this year. Should PCD schedule dances for these dates? Practically everything else is closed then, so for those who are around, it could be fun to have a dance to attend (and to be able bring visiting friends & relations along). However, some of your regular organizers will be out of town or will want those nights off.

Hospitality for Traveling Bands/Callers
If you've always wanted to hang out with the band and caller after the dance, and have room to put one or more of them up overnight, Lenora Kandiner would love to add you to the list of willing hosts for our touring musicians and callers.
